Exclusive: 15 officers from Mumbai Police test positive for coronavirus

This number constitutes to 65 per cent of cases among the police authorities and reports also reveal that a total of 23 have been infected across Maharashtra, out of which seven are officers and 16 are other employees in the department.

Over the last few days, Mumbai Police has been keeping an eye on Mumbaikars, thereby helping the BMC and the state government in tackling the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak across the city. Mumbai Live, through a recent check, has found that a total of 15 officials from Mumbai Police have tested positive for the virus, and the number has doubled in just 24 hours. As of April 15, 2020, seven officials from Mumbai Police were infected, and a day later, i.e. on April 16, 2020, it was reported that 15 officials were infected.

This number constitutes to 65 per cent of cases among the police authorities and reports also reveal that a total of 23 have been infected across Maharashtra, out of which seven are officers and 16 are other employees in the department.

On Thursday, April 16, 2020, an officer from Juhu Police station had tested positive. It is said that he is a resident of Bandra and the entire residential building has been sealed. Further, another assistant police officer from Rafi Kidwai (RAK) Marg was also infected with the virus. He lives with two other police officers and keeping the safety in mind, officials have sealed the entire residential colony. Both the officers are on duty with the special branch 1.

It is also suspected one of the police officers in Byculla may also be positive for the virus and as per protocol, the respective building has also been sealed. As of Thursday, six residential areas including RAK Marg police station building and the Bhayakhala police colony have been sealed so far.

Owing to the increase in cases in just one day, the medical team has been asked to test the families of these officers and other staff and they are being treated immediately if the symptoms are detected.
