Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been rested for the final two ODIs and the three-match T20 series against New Zealand. In Kohli's absence, vice-captain Rohit Sharma will lead the team. Meanwhile, no replacement has been named for Virat Kohli.

The last time Kohli had rested his bat was during the Asia Cup following India's tour of Ireland and England where the skipper played all the five T20s, all the three ODIs, and the five-Test series, where he scored 593 runs.

Meanwhile, Kohli will play three ODIs but will rest for the fourth and fifth ODIs and the T20 series thereafter.

BCCI, in a press release, said Kohli has been rested keeping in mind his workload.

India captain Virat Kohli will be rested for the fourth and fifth ODI against New Zealand and the subsequent T20I series. Considering his workload in the last few months, the team management and Senior selection committee is of the view that it would be ideal for him to get adequate rest ahead of the home series against Australia," the release said.

On January 22, Kohli became the first man to sweep all three ICC awards when he won the ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year, Test Cricketer of the Year and Cricketer of the Year.
