Days ahead of the Indian Premier League's (IPL) new season, which will begin from April 9, legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar backed Mumbai Indians (MI) team and said that it will be hard to beat them.

The statement comes after Mumbai Indians players Surya Kumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya and Ishan Kishan’s impactful contributions during the limited-overs matches of England's tour of India. They helped India clinch the limited-overs series 2-1 against England.

"Mumbai Indians will be hard to beat. We have just seen their players coming to form. Ishan Kishan, Suryakunar Yadav – the way they have batted. Hardik Pandya – the way he has come today," Gavaskar was quoted by Hindustan Times.

Moreover, talking about Hardik Pandya’s fitness, Gavaskar said that the way he has made a comeback is very good not just for Mumbai Indians, but also Indian Cricket. It was important for Indian cricket to see him bowl 9 overs. It means he is ready to play.

Meanwhile, wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan smashed 60 runs in the two matches that he played. He had to miss the last two games due to a groin injury. Suryakumar Yadav, on the other hand, scored 89 runs in the three games he played.

Mumbai Indians will be playing the opening match of the IPL 2021 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on April 9. The home team has lifted the cup five times and will be looking forward to scripting history in the 14th season of the IPL by becoming the first team to win the title for three consecutive years.
