Finally, the will it, won't it phase for IPL 2020 is over. It is now confirmed that the 13th edition of the most awaited sporting league in India, the Indian Premier League (IPL) will kick off from September 19. The IPL matches were to start from March 29, 2020, but had to be postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Brijesh Patel, Chairman of the IPL has confirmed the dates and also shared that they are waiting for an official go-ahead from the government.

Currently, India is the third worst-hit country in the world with more than 11 lakh COVID-19 cases. Keeping that in mind, the organisers zeroed in on UAE for the league this year. This is not the first time that the IPL will be played in another country. In the year 2009, IPL had to be shifted to South Africa and in 2014, the first leg of the matches were played in UAE due to general elections being held in India that year.

This has come after the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced its decision to postpone Men's T20 World Cup 2020 to the next year due to the pandemic. The dates of the IPL are carefully picked as to not clash with the schedule of the Indian team. Since the final match of the IPL would end on November 8, the Indian players would get enough time to quarantine for two weeks in Australia for the test series on December 3.

For IPL 2020, the players will be reaching 25 days before the tournament kicks off so that they get enough time to train. It has already been announced that M S Dhoni will be making a comeback in the IPL matches and will be joining his teammates in yellow.

Following this announcement, cricket fans across the nation took to Twitter to share their excitement. Here are some of the tweets:
