Ranji Trophy 2018/19: Jay Bista awarded Player of the Match as Mumbai draw Saurashtra towards an exciting draw

The match between Mumbai and Saurashtra was an interesting one as prior to the match, Mumbai was hanging loose on the 13th spot whereas Saurashtra was sitting on the top of the points table. After the draw, Saurashtra have retained their spot whereas Mumbai has been pushed down to 14th spot

In a close encounter with Mumbai, Saurashtra ended up in an exciting draw against the 41-time-champions in the match that ended on Tuesday. The match could have gone anyway but both the teams failed to convert their efforts into a victory and ended up bagging one point each. With this victory, Saurashtra has retained their spot and manage to remain on the top whereas Mumbai has been pushed down to 14th spot.

Mumbai was ahead of the visitors by 46 runs on the first innings and accordingly, they declared their second innings closed in the morning session at 238 for 8 which left Saurashtra with the target of 285 in 72 overs. On the other hand, Saurashtra managed to do well after being 79 for two with a 113-run stand between Vishwarajsinh Jadeja and Sheldon Jackson.

But their march towards victory was halted after Jadeja was run out by a direct throw from Mumbai opener Jay Bista which broke the partnership at 192. The fall of wickets continued after medium pacer Minad Manjrekar took two wickets in an over and got rid of Jackson as well as Prerak Mankad when Saurashtra needed 55 runs in ten overs. Continuing his spell, Manjrekar managed to earn two more wickets as he sent back Arpit Vasavada and rival captain Jaydev Unadkat. 

Later the game was called off as a draw after four balls in the final over as the visitors were on 266 for 7 and needed 19 more runs to win. Jay Bista was awarded with the Player of the Match award for his century in the first innings.

In the meantime, Mumbai yet has two more matches to be played whereas, Saurashtra is on the top of the table with one game in hand.
