Shreyas Gurav’s superb efforts inspired Lalchand Rajput XI to score a thumping 244 runs win against Dilip Vengsarkar XI on the third day of their 3-day first-round match of the 24th Shalini Bhalekar Trophy (boys’ under-23) Selection Trials cricket tournament 2019, organized by Mangesh Bhalekar in association with the Dadar Parsi Zoroastrian Sports Club and played  at the MCA Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy ground, BKC on Thursday.

The tournament is being conducted under the auspices of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).

Rajput in the first essay scored 301 and then restricted Vengsarkar first innings to 226 to take a 75-run lead. In the second innings, Rajput XI scored a quick 274 run for 7 wickets in 53 overs before declaring their innings and set Vengsarkar XI a stiff target of 349 runs for a win.

The Vengsarkar batting crumbled against guiles of Gurav (6 for 44) and Tanush Kotian (4 for 44) as the second innings folded for a paltry 105 runs in 23.5 overs handing Rajput XI an outright win and five points.

In the other match between Chandrakant Pandit XI and Jahangir Pithawala XI ended in a draw. But, Pithawala XI were declared winners on the basis of the first innings lead and earned three points.

Chandrakant Pandit XI (1st innings): 238 all out, in 67.4 overs & 2nd innings: 260 for 6 wickets, in 59.0 overs (Sangram Bhalekar 102*, Agni Chopra 61, Yashraj Malap 50*) lost to Jahangir Pithawala XI - 1st innings: 443 for 6 wickets declared, in 90 overs (Hardik Tamore 63, Gaurish Jadhav 127, Sumedh Tare 46) on first-innings lead. Pithawala XI 3 points, Pandit XI 0 points.

Lalchand Rajput XI (1st innings): 301 all out, in 73.4 overs & 2nd innings: 274 for 7 wickets declared in 53 overs (Adeeb Usmani 45, Onkar Jadhav 73*, Tanush Kotian 61; Praful Devakate 3 for 66) beat Dilip Vengsarkar XI - 1st innings: 226 all out, in 56.4 overs & 2nd innings: 105 all out, in 23.5 overs (Shreyas Gurav 6 for 44, Tanush Kotian 4 for 44) by 244 runs.
