On March 4, India Women's team faced the England Women's team in a T20I match in Guwahati and accordingly, Mumbai cricketer and opener, Smriti Mandhana became the youngest T20I captain for India. At 22 years and 229 days, the batswoman was appointed as the captain in absence of Harmanpreet Kaur, who has been rested for the three-match T20 series after she suffered an ankle injury.

Previously, Indian batsman and southpaw, Suresh Raina held the record for being the youngest T20I captain at 23 years and 197 days. While Mandhana managed to have a lucky start as she won the toss, India Women's team lost the match to England as they won by 41 runs.

Veteran player Mithali Raj replaced Kaur as Mandhana wanted some experience on board. The Indian side played with England after a 2-1 ODI series win over them.

Earlier this year, Mandhana became the number one ODI batter in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women's Rankings following her exemplary run of form in both the ODIs and T20Is.
