The inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) player auction will take place on February 13 in Mumbai. Mostly the auction will take place at Mumbai's Jio World Convention Centre, according to the Cricbuzz report. 

After a few WPL franchises that also have teams participating in the ongoing ILT20 requested to conduct the ceremony after the ILT20 final on February 12, the BCCI accepted the request and finalised the date, February 13. 

On Wednesday January 25, 2023 the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced all five franchises of the ‘Women’s Premier League'. Among the winners of the team bids are Adani Sportsline, Royal Challengers, and JSW.

“BCCI announces the successful bidders for Women's Premier League. The combined bid valuation is INR 4669.99 Cr. A look at the Five franchises with ownership rights for #WPL,” the BCCI wrote on Twitter.

Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi, and Lucknow will be the five cities that will be featured in the opening edition of the Women's Premier League. India’s leading business conglomerate Adani Group acquired the Ahmedabad franchise, through its sports venture Adani Sportsline Pvt Ltd. The Ahmedabad team also attracted the highest bid with INR 1289 crore.

Jhulan Goswami to join Mumbai as mentor and bowling coach

Mumbai Franchise has roped in former India fast bowler Jhulan Goswami as bowling coach and mentor. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly, who has re-joined Capitals as team director after serving as BCCI president from 2019 to October 2022, disclosed the development. Last year, 40-year-old Goswami retired from international cricket.

"Jhulan has gone to Mumbai," Ganguly told the media at Eden Gardens on Tuesday. "We had given her an offer, but she is going to Mumbai."
