A 14-year-old jumped off a moving train on Sunday morning when a man entered the ladies compartment and threatened the girl.

The victim boarded the Kalyan-bound train at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSTM) at 9.30 am on Sunday and was alone in the compartment when the accused boarded the ladies compartment.

The girl tried to pull the emergency chain but it didn’t work.

The accused asked the girl to keep quiet and allegedly came close to the girl. The girl was alarmed and jumped off the running train at Parel as she feared of being molested by the man.

I was running late for my classes and took the middle second-class ladies compartment. There were no other travellers. Suddenly, a man got in and the train started to move. I got scared and pulled the alarm chain, but the train did not stop," she told TOI. "The man told me to stay quiet. This scared me further as I hadn't spoken a word with him. I continued to pull the alarm chain. The man repeated his warning and came close to me."

She saw a few railway workers on the tracks and took the leap hoping they would rescue her. The girl fractured her foot and suffered a severe head injury.
