Kurla Rape, Murder Case: Police arrests 2 accused known to the victim

A 20-year-old woman was allegedly raped and murdered in Mumbai's Kurla area last week. As per officials, the body of victim, which had started decomposing, was found on the 13th floor in the lift room of an unoccupied building in the HDIL compound.

Mumbai Police on late Saturday, November 27, arrested two accused for rape and murder of the 20-year-old in Kurla.

The two accused -- Rizwan Sheikh and his friend Faisal Sheikh -- who were known to the victim are being questioned, the police added.

This comes a few hours after the victim's body was discovered and handed over to Vinoba Bhave Police Station for post-mortem. However, the arrest took place based on the statement given by the victim's relatives who had identified the body.

Moreover, the police revealed that the victim was stabbed in the abdomen and chest at least 26 times. The accused also brutally hit her with hammer resulted in a skull fracture and one of her eyes also popped out.

During the interrogation, it came to light that one of the accused was in a relationship with the victim. She had been insisting the accused for marriage. But he did not want to marry her, therefore the accused hatched a plot with his friend to get rid of her.

Meanwhile, Joint Commissioner (law and order) Vishwas Nangare Patil told mid-day that the case had been solved and two accused have been held.
