Mumbai Police arrests 289 people for violating rules during Coronavirus Lockdown

Officials released the data recently which showed an increase in the number of cases between March 20, 2020 and March 26, 2020. All of them have been prosecuted by the police in accordance with Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code Act 1860.

Despite the government imposing several rules during the coronavirus lockdown across the country, many citizens have been leaving their homes, risking lives of many around. With an increasing number of coronavirus cases in India, it is important for one to understand social distancing and stay at home. Addressing the same, CM Uddhav Thackeray imposed a state-wise curfew much before PM Modi had announced, and it was observed that several people have not followed the guidelines suggested by the government.

Hence, the Police across the city of Mumbai has taken action against them and as per recently released data, 289 people have been arrested for violating rules. Of these, 25 have been given notice and released. Police are searching for 22 accused.

The data released by the police between March 20, 2020, and March 26, 2020, shows that the number of cases has increased with every passing day. While there were only two people arrested on March 20, the number has increased to 88 arrested on March 26, 2020. All of them have been prosecuted by the police in accordance with Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code Act 1860.


As per the data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) released a statement on Thursday, March 27, 2020, confirming that 9 new cases have tested positive for coronavirus, in the city of Mumbai. It is said that out of the nine patients, five have a travel history, while four came in close contact of others. Moreover, three patients are from other cities and six are from Mumbai.

With this, the total number of cases in Mumbai increases to 58, and in places nearby increases to 28, making a total of 86 cases. Earlier in the evening, it was also reported that 12 members of one family in Sangli tested positive for Coronavirus. They were being treated at a hospital nearby.
