A four-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool at a beach front resort in Vasai West on Tuesday. The boy, Mohammad Imad Qureshi, a resident of Bandra, was on a day picnic at the Seven Seas Resort with his parents and relatives when the incident took place, police said.


Imad's father Muddasar Qureshi (38) told the police that around noon the boy was playing near the lake and I was chatting with relatives. Half an hour later, they noticed that Imad was missing. Muddasar said they started searching for Imad and found him in the swimming pool and rushed him to the hospital, where he was declared dead.

Qureshi said there were no safety measures at the swimming pool. "There were no lifeguards in the pool area either," Qureshi said. "Qureshi told us that his son Imad fell into the lake and drowned," said senior police inspector Kalyanrao Karpe of Arnala police station.


The police have registered a case of accidental death due to drowning and the investigation is on. Karpe said, “We are checking the recordings of the CCTV cameras located in the resort and pool area to see if there was any negligence on the part of the resort management.

On April 19, an 18-year-old boy from Nalasopara drowned while swimming in the water park at Kshitij Resort in Virar. After the CCTV footage of the incident came to light, the police registered an accidental death on May 5. The police registered a case against the management of the resort. The incident took place at 4:30 pm. Since the pool was shallow, no one noticed the teenager drowning.
