Police Officers are known to put in long hours at work and have a lifestyle of stress. This lifestyle may sometimes lead to stress-related diseases and even untimely death. In order to assist the families, Maharashtra Police has decided to provide financial aid of ₹50,000 from the Director General of Police Special Assistance Fund, in case the police officer dies on duty due to natural causes.

The issue of extended work hours for police officers has been a persistent issue and the department has taken several measures to counter it. Currently, if a police officer dies on duty, then his/her family is provided with a grant, insurance, and aid from the Police Welfare Fund. However, with this new move, families will now receive ₹50,000 aid from the Director General of Police Special Assistance Fund.

The announcement was made by DGP Subodhkumar Jaiswal after months of repeated demands for the same by the state police officers and briefed them regarding the same.
