According to the latest report, all 33 accused in the alleged gang rape of a 15-year-old girl in Maharashtra’s Thane district have been held, said Manpada police.

This development came on Monday, September 27, after the Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the case, arrested two more persons in connection with the case.

The two accused, police added, were arrested late on Sunday and early on Monday from various locations in Thane.

The officials said that the alleged video filmed by some of the accused when the girl was first raped and call details and chats of the accused will serve as crucial evidence.

The Manpada police said that they will now rely on technical evidence to take the investigation forward.

With all the accused under arrest, the police’s priority will now be to file its charge sheet in the case, Chaure added. Of the total accused, two minors were detained last week and sent to a juvenile home in Bhiwandi. The police have also seized the auto-rickshaw, which was used to pick up the victim from her home, on September 22.

Moreover, during preliminary investigation and interrogation, many of the accused confessed to their involvement and that they had assaulted the survivor. However, cops said that in order to prove the offence, technical evidence was crucial.

In her complaint on September 22, the survivor alleged that it all started in January when a man, who she was in a relationship with, threatened to leak their private videos and forced her to have physical relations with some of his friends and acquaintances.

All the accused then raped the girl, a resident of Dombivli (East), at various locations on multiple occasions till September, officials familiar with the matter said.
