Mumbai: 365 cases of atrocities against minor girls registered in last 8 months

According to a survey by the National Crime Record Bureau’s (NCRB) Crime in India 2020, Mumbai ranks second to Delhi among 19 metropolitan cities in crimes against women.

According to the latest report, it has come to light that in the last eight months, 365 cases of atrocities against minor girls have been registered. Moreover, Mumbai police have reported the abduction of 716 girls this year so far.

However, it has been observed that amid the ongoing pandemic the cases have been reduced compared to the previous years. In 2019, 6, 438 criminal cases have been registered in the police station. Of which, the police have succeeded in solving nearly 5,328 cases.

The city had seen a major drop in such activities in April and May during the lockdown period. The average number of atrocities reported in Mumbai during the day had come down to one crime every two days.

A total of 619 incidents of atrocities took place between January and August in 2021. It includes 365 cases for minor girls. So far, 716 cases of abduction of minor girls have been registered, of which 586 cases have been solved.

In the last one year, 4,539 cases of atrocities against women have been registered. Out of these, police have succeeded in solving 3,507 cases.

Reports stated that in the last year, 445 cases of atrocities against girls have come to light. Out of which 419 cases were solved.

According to a survey by the National Crime Record Bureau’s (NCRB) Crime in India 2020, Mumbai ranks second to Delhi among 19 metropolitan cities in crimes against women.

This indicates that even in the pandemic, the city witnessed a high number of instances of crimes against women as the city reported 4,583 cases, while the National Capital recorded 9,782 instances.
