On Sunday night the Mumbai crime branch arrested bookie Anil Jaisinghani, who was named as an accused in the case related to the alleged extortion of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s wife Amruta Fadnavis.

Jaisinghani was arrested from the border of Godhra district in Gujarat by a crime branch team, a senior crime branch officer said.

Last week, Jaisinghani’s daughter Aniksha was arrested in the same case. Jaisinghani, who is an influential cricket bookie and a history-sheeter, was at large for seven years.

On February 20, the Malabar Hill police registered an FIR against the father-daughter duo for allegedly trying to blackmail Amruta Fadnavis by threatening to make public some audio and video clips that would make it appear that the latter was accepting favours from her. According to the complaint, Aniksha befriended Amruta over the past few years and gained her trust.

Also as per the complaint, when she asked Amruta to help get rid of cases against her father, the latter blocked her. After a few days, Aniksha was alleged to have sent audio and video recordings to Amruta to blackmail her. Following this, Amruta approached the Malabar Hill police.
