Bangladeshi immigrants arrested by Anti Human Trafficking unit in Navi Mumbai

Officials said that the group was reportedly working in different parts of Ghansoli, Koparkhairane, Kalwa, and Shilphata for the past six months to a year.

A total of 18 Bangladeshi immigrants were arrested by the Navi Mumbai Anti Human Trafficking unit in a recently conducted investigation. As pe reports, these immigrants were residing illegally for a year in Navi Mumbai’s Ghansoli area and the group comprised of 10 women and 8 men. Additional information shared by the officials reveals that the immigrants worked as labourers, house helps, and auto-rickshaw drivers in different areas of Navi Mumbai.

A report regarding the same was published in the Hindustan Times. Officials also added that the arrest was planned when the group had gathered to celebrate a marriage anniversary at Ghansoli’s Morya Apartment. An informant tipped off the unit about the illegal immigrants, and post a thorough planning, the officials reached the location to act upon the same.

Quoting one of the police officers, the report mentioned that upon arriving, the police found about the group having a get-together and post the interrogation about their identity proofs, the group admitted about being Bangladeshi citizens and did not possess any Indian identity cards. Meanwhile, officers also confirmed that the group were in the process of acquiring Indian Aadhar cards and PAN cards illegally.

As of now, all 18 immigrants have been arrested under the Passport Act and Foreigners Act and the complaints have been filed with Rabale police and details reported state that the group was reportedly working in different parts of Ghansoli, Koparkhairane, Kalwa, and Shilphata for the past six months to a year.

Human trafficking is a prevalent issue globally and has become a growing concern in India. Illegal immigration is a severe problem in India, with people from neighbouring countries such as Bangladesh and Nepal entering the country illegally in search of better job opportunities. Many times, these individuals become victims of human trafficking and are forced to work in inhumane conditions for little or no pay.
