Case registered against 42 doctors for submitting fake PG certificates

It is being said that such certificates were made by another doctor, at a cost of INR 3-5 lakhs. So far, police have arrested one doctor involved in the crime.

In a recently reported case, a total of 42 doctors were arrested by the Agripada police after the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) filed a complain regarding the doctors for submitting PG degree certificates. As per reports, these post-graduation certificated were submitted with an aim to get licenses which would allow them to continue their practice as specialists. 

Report published in the Hindustan Times states that the doctors from the MMC reached out to the police after they identified the fake documents. Further investigation revealed that the 42 doctors continued as specialists by getting fake certificates without passing the examinations conducted by the concerned board. 

Sharing more information, the officer said that a case has been registered and a doctor from Nashik has been arrested under suspicion. It is being said that such certificates were made by another doctor, at a cost of INR 3-5 lakhs.

Officials were able to identify the fake certificates using the database search where their names and details were said to be missing, post which their licenses were suspended which did not allow them from practising further. The report states that the doctors had submitted diploma certificates related to specialisations like gynaecology, obstetrics, ophthalmology, general surgery, cardiology, and others.

Similar cases have been reported in the past by the MMC whereby the offense is registered as forgery, and strict actions are taken to ensure the validity and sanctity of the profession is maintained as it involves treating people on a daily basis. 

As of now, the police have registered the case of cheating and forgery. Further investigation is underway.
