A cab driver and an estate agent have been arrested for their involvement in a fraud that cost a man INR 1 crore.
The scam started when the accused, Hasan Qureshi (31) and Ubedurehman Qureshi (33), offered their services to convert large amounts of cash into the newly introduced INR 2,000 notes. They convinced the victim that they would pay an additional 10% commission for the exchange. The victim agreed to the rate exchange.
On the day of the transaction, the complainant arrived with the cash-filled bag. As the exchange was about to take place, four individuals posing as policemen entered and forcibly took the bag of money. In a matter of moments, the criminals made their escape.
However, the incident was captured by nearby CCTV cameras. The footage helped law enforcement identify and arrest the cab driver and estate agent involved in the fraudulent scheme. Both individuals were taken into custody. The police are still on the lookout for two other suspects.
