The Central Railway administration on Friday announced that a fine of total Rs 1 crore has been recovered from the passengers commuting without valid tickets. Of the total, INR 75 lakh included from the commuters using fake IDs or fake QR codes of essential services.

As per data from June 15 to November 4, stringent actions were taken against 25,400 passengers travelling on Mumbai suburban local without tickets. However, a fine of INR 25 lakh was levied on 2200 passengers of the special mail-express.

As road travel is not affordable to everyone, many people enter the station with the help of these loopholes.

Due to the lockdown in the wake of COVID-19, Mumbai's transport service was closed for several months. Later, only employees in essential activities were allowed to enter the locals, now it has extended for others like dabbawallah, lawyers et al. Even women are allowed to travel via local trains in stipulated time hours with valid tickets.

However, there is no word from the state government or Railway authorities as to when the common public will be allowed to commute by locals.
