On February 4, Mumbai Police's Economic Offenses Wing filed a 176-page long chargesheet against Bollywood producer Prerna Arora. The accused who has been the producer for films such as Padman, Kedarnath, has been accused of committing fraud of ₹31 crore along with two others by Vashu Bhagnani.

Last year, Arora was arrested by the Economic Offenses Wing but since the accused's mother - Pratima Arora - was absconding, the police were searching for her.

During 2016-18, Arora had taken a loan of ₹31 crore under the name of her mother along with the co-owners of KriArj, Arjun N Kapoor and Pratima Arora to produce the films, Padman and Kedarnath. Both the films were successful at the box office and earned a fair amount of money but Arora had borrowed money for Kedarnath despite her not having rights for the film.

Alongside, she had also taken a loan worth ₹9 crore from Bhagnani to buy a house at Pali Hill, Mumbai. After which, on realising the facts, Bhagnani demanded his money back and in response, Prerna began avoiding him and was dubious in regard to returning the money.

Due to which, on behalf of Bhagnani, Puja Film company's manager Nagesh Vaidikar, along with two companies filed a complaint with the Mumbai Police's Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) against Arora on July 14, 2018.

Thus, under the guidance of the EOW Deputy Commissioner Parag Manere, Police Inspector Sanjay Govilkar booked Prerna under IPC 429, 120 (B) along with Arjun N Kapoor and Prerna's mother Pratima Arora. Accordingly, she was arrested on December 7, 2018, and was kept at Byculla's Women's Jail.

Till now, the police has been able to gather 25 witnesses relevant to the case. Talking to Mumbai Live, the police officer close to the case said that the investigation in regard to the matter is ongoing.
