On Friday, December 4, Khar police registered a first information report (FIR) against Kelvin Cheung and his father Chi Ping Cheung under sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code based on the complaint of Ranjit Bindra, a resident of Pali Hill in Bandra and co-owner of Bastian in Mumbai.

According to a report in Hindustan Times, Mumbai Police booked the star chef for cheating the restaurant’s co-owner Ranjit Bindra of USD 200,000. However, no arrests have been made yet. The Bastian has been a favourite of the celebrities with stars frequently spotting the place to enjoy new-age global cuisine. However, Cheung had suddenly quit his association with the restaurant last year citing his father’s demise.

Moreover, as per conjecture, Cheung had allegedly started ignoring Bindra. Bindra followed up the matter, however to avail no response, a police officer informed adding that money was transferred through a hospitality firm.

However, Kelvin refrained from speaking to the media regarding the matter and stated that neither has he received information from the restaurant, nor from the police. However, he has confirmed that he has not been a part of any investment deal with Bastian and has not signed any contracts during his tenure with the co-owners. Further, he also refused to have received any payments as stated in the case.
