In a significant development, a specialized court has denied the bail plea of Dr. Adnanali Qamarali Sarkar, who was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for his alleged involvement in the Pune ISIS module. The decision was made by Special NIA Judge BD Shelke, who cited compelling evidence presented by the NIA indicating Dr. Sarkar's potential complicity in the purported activities.

Dr. Sarkar, a 44-year-old medical practitioner, was apprehended on July 27, 2023, as part of the NIA's crackdown on the ISIS module operating in Pune. The NIA's investigation revealed that the group was engaged in activities such as radicalization, recruitment, and training individuals in the construction of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and small arms. Additionally, the agency alleged that the group disseminated ISIS ideology through various media channels, including the "Voice of Hind" magazine.

Bail Plea Rejection

Despite Dr. Sarkar's plea of innocence in his bail application, where he claimed to have been falsely implicated and summoned only as a witness, the NIA presented seized materials allegedly linking him to other accused members involved in promoting violent Jihad and ISIS ideology. Special NIA Judge BD Shelke, after evaluating the evidence, determined that there was sufficient prima facie material to suggest Dr. Sarkar's involvement in unlawful activities under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

In light of the evidence presented by the NIA, the court rejected Dr. Sarkar's bail plea, emphasizing the seriousness of the allegations and the potential threat posed by his release. The decision underscores the court's commitment to upholding national security and combating terrorism in all its forms.
