In the last five days, officials of the Mumbai Customs Department have seized gold and electronics items weighing over 13 kg and 249 grams at the airport. Their value is ten and a half crore rupees and the customs department arrested seven people in this operation. The customs department has seized these gold and electronic items in 24 operations.
It includes gold powder, raw gold, and gold paste. The accused had hidden the gold in clothes, as well as in bags with a large amount of cash. The officer said that the customs department took this action from July 10 to 14.
Two Indian passengers each from Dubai and Abu Dhabi and one from Jeddah were arrested in this connection. 4850 grams of gold was seized from them. Some of this gold was affixed to the body, while some of the gold was hidden in clothes and bags in secret places.
Apart from this, two Indian nationals, residents of Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh and Haridwar, Uttarakhand were caught by the Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel and handed over to the Customs Department. 1950 grams of gold was seized from them. Gold was dusted and hidden in wax. They were hidden under the faucet in the toilet to hide them from the security guards. In that operation, 3010 grams of gold was seized and its value is 1 crore 89 lakh rupees.
In all these operations, 12 passengers from Abu Dhabi, two from Dubai and one each from Bahrain and Shahjah had hidden gold and electronic items in their bags. 3431 grams of gold was seized from him. Its price is two and a half crore rupees. They were intercepted by customs officials. Notice has been given to these accused.
In another operation, two foreign nationals bound for Bangkok were intercepted at the airport by the customs department. Foreign currency worth INR 45 lakh was also seized from him. 7 thousand 300 euros, 2.5 thousand US dollars, 29 thousand pounds and 12 thousand New Zealand dollars were confiscated. The accused had hidden the currency in a laptop bag, the customs department said.
