Dr Deepak Amrapurkar death- Police arrest four locals

The Dadar police have arrested four people in the case of Dr Deepak Amrapurkar who was sucked in an open manhole on August 29 when city witnessed a heavy rainfall. After two days, the doctor's body was found in Worli sea face.

Police have arrested Rakesh Kadam (28), Dinar Pawar (36), Nilesh Kadam (33), Siddhesh Beslekar (25) under IPC Section 304(A) which pertains to causing death by negligence. Police made an arrest on Saturday and the accused were present in the court on Sunday. They have been sent to judicial custody.

On August 29, when the city was bashed with heavy rainfall, many people lost their lives. One such was renowned gastroenterologist Dr Deepak Amrapurkar who decided to leave his car and walk towards his home as he was a few minutes away from his home. Unfortunately, he fell into an open manhole which opened by the locals to drain out the rainwater which was flooding their homes. They added that they were stopped by a police constable but they told him that they are civic workers and opened the manhole.

We recorded statements of several eye-witnesses and on behalf of that, we nabbed four accused. They were not authorised to open the manhole"
