Mumbai: INR 40 lakh worth cocaine seized from an Indian passenger

An official reported that after conducting a raid in the city's Mazgaon neighbourhood on Monday, police confiscated drugs worth more than INR 40 lakh. Additionally, a few others were detained by the police at the scene for questioning. The Mumbai Crime Branch's Anti-Narcotics Cell carried out a raid at Navanagar in the Mazgaon area.

Beneath the wax layer of soaps in 16 small soap boxes, the DRI (Directorate of Revenue Intelligence) discovered 3.36 kilograms of cocaine on February 1 worth INR 33.60 crore from an Indian passenger who landed at the Mumbai international airport from Addis Ababa, an official said.

Officials recovered a soap covered with clear plastic after removing the wax covering. When the soap cake was scratched, a powdery material was discovered inside.

"The DRI intercepted the passenger for examination of his luggage. 16 small soap boxes were recovered. Officers observed that something is concealed beneath the wax layer of the soaps," a DRI release said.

The passenger has been detained in accordance with the appropriate NDPS Act provisions and is currently being questioned, the DRI continued.
