Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS), such as Heroin, Cocaine, Marijuana, Charas etc, weighing 54.850 kgs was destroyed by DRI, Mumbai Customs, on Wednesday, December 13, 2023.

The drug-destruction drive was carried out in front of a High-Level Drug Destruction Committee of Mumbai Customs Zone-I, CBIC, comprising senior officials from DRI, Mumbai Customs, by way of incineration held at Common Hazardous Waste Treatment Storage & Disposal Facility (CHWTSDF), MWML, Taloja, Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra.

The destroyed drugs are valued at about INR 410 Crores, in terms of their value in the illicit market.  

This is the third such destruction in this year, the first being on March 2, 2023 of 61.585 kgs of drugs valued at approximately INR 240 crore and second being on July 19, 2023 of 128.47 kgs of drugs valued at INR 865 crore in the illicit market. Thus, in this calendar year total 244.905 kgs of drug valued at INR 1515 crore is destroyed.

These drugs have been seized by various agencies like Postal Appraisal Section (PAS), Special Investigation and Intelligence Branch (SIIB) and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). 

Mumbai Customs Zone-I is committed to ensure strict law enforcement against illicit trafficking of NDPS substances to secure our citizens a safe and healthy life.
