Vikhroli – A woman lost her eight lakhs after befriending a man on Facebook.
Apurva (name changed) a resident of Vikhroli befriended Michael Finch on FB and started chatting with him. After few days, they became friends and exchanged their mobile numbers.
In the month of August, on the occasion of Apurva’s birthday, Michael told her that he would give her an expensive gift. After few days, Apurva got a call from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi airport. They told her that she has got a courier for which she has to pay Rs. 19 lakhs as a customs duty. Apurva then ignored the call. However, Michael then sent a mail posing as a fake RBI officer asking for the payment. Scared Apurva paid the money. After sending the money she tried to get in touch with Michael on FB but his profile was nowhere to be seen and his mobile number was also disconnected. Suspecting the foul play she went to police and registered the police complaint.
