Renowned car designer Dilip Chhabria, the founder of DC Design, was recently arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch officials with regards to a fraud case involving a sum of INR 25 crore. As per records, the case was registered against him on January 22, 2021.

It is alleged that between 2016 and 2018, Chhabria bought spare parts for a car from an auto parts dealer and did not pay for it. The complaint has been filed by a professional who is a resident of Chennai, and according to preliminary information, approximately INR 18 crore was due to be paid. However, the amount has reached INR 22 crore after considering the interest for the same.

Chhabria was arrested on Saturday, January 30, 2021, in connection with the case and the court has remanded him in police custody till February 5, 2021.

Officials received the information that a sports car with a fake number plate would arrive in the Nariman Point area, post which the trap was set by Sachin Vaze. A search of the car revealed that it had a fake number plate, and police also found that his chassis number had been changed. Accordingly, Chhabria's plan was busted, and it was revealed that the car designer had sold 120 sports cars in the country and abroad through his company, at an average cost of INR 42 lakh per car. Of these, 90 cars are involved in financial scams. Further investigations are underway.

Police informed that the car was seized and Chhabria has been arrested. A case has also been registered against his son Bonito Chhabria.

Besides this, popular cricketer Dinesh Karthik had also filed a complaint against Chhabria, whereby it is said that he had taken an advance of INR 5 lakh stating that he would give him a car, which he failed to deliver. Reports state that Chhabria has also committed fraud worth INR 5.5 crore with comedian Kapil Sharma, who filed a complaint and a reply was recorded in this case. Kapil had asked Chhabria to make an expensive vanity van, and all the money was paid for the same. However, no van was delivered in return. Last year, Kapil Sharma had lodged a complaint with the Mumbai Police's Crimes Branch and had contacted the officials again after knowing about the recent arrest of Dilip Chhabria in the car registration case.
