On September 28, Goa High Court formally framed charges against former Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal in connection with the rape of a colleague. He had been charged under sections 342 (wrongful restraint), 342 (wrongful confinement), 376 (rape), among others of IPC and hearing will take place on November 21.

Here’s all that happened

- In November 2013, a female employee of 'Tehelka' publication accused founder Tarun Tejpal of sexually assaulting her in an elevator of a five-star hotel in Goa.

- The victim complained that she was sexually assaulted by Tejpal on November 7 and November 8

- At first, Tejpal denied the allegations and blamed the state for delaying the case for three years.

- Since May 19, 2014, he was out on bail until November last year when he was arrested.

- Tejpal then moved a petition under section 327 (3) to disallow media and people from court proceedings and the court granted his request.

- After this incident, former Tehelka managing editor Shoma Chaudhury was criticised for trying to ‘cover up’ the alleged charges. She rejected the allegations in her resignation letter:

While I accept that I could have done many things differently and in a more measured way, I reject the allegations of a cover-up because in no way could the first actions that were taken be deemed suppression of any kind.”
