Bhandup police have arrested a Nigerian couple for cheating people through ‘honey trap’. The arrested couple is identified as Nnagbu Orayjuka (39) and Neharika Orayjuka (37) who are said to be expert in cheating people by creating fake Facebook profiles of beautiful women.

Orayjuka had created a Facebook account in the name of Mercy John and he used to send friend requests to traders. He had sent one such friend request to Sandip Singh who works as a share broker. Sandip accepted his request and Orayjuka’s wife started chatting with him. She laid a trap impersonating herself as an employee of a UK-based pharmaceutical company. She lured Sandip into herbal seed business claiming hefty returns on investment. Sandip first bought herbal seeds worth Rs 2.5 lakh from an Indian seed supplier. Projecting himself as the owner of the UK-based company, Orayjuka met Sandip and told him to deposit Rs 10 lakh in supplier’s account for the order of 50 herbal seed packets. Sandip followed his instruction and paid Rs 10 lakh through RTGS. After receiving money from Sandip, Orayjuka switched off his mobile phone. Sandip again received a call from Orayjuka who sought Rs 1.26 lakh to return his earlier paid amount. Seeing the chances of getting his money back, Sandip paid that amount as well.

Finally, Sandip got suspicious of the whole episode and lodged a complaint with the Bhadup police. The police squad came to know that the Nigerian couple work from Delhi and they arrested them from a church expecting their entry there to mark the occasion of Good Friday, informed Sachin Patil, deputy commissioner of police of zone 7.

Police have seized 14 mobiles, sim cards of different countries, internet dongle, memory card, pen drive, laptop and other material from the accused. Police are further investigating the matter.
