Mumbai - During the last two days Air Intelligence Unit, Mumbai has booked 6 cases of gold smuggling.  8,260 Kgs of gold has been seized which is worth Rs. 2,29,31,838/-.
On 22nd January, AIU officers intercepted a passenger Shaikh Irfanbhai Parvatsingh Rana holding Indian passport on his arrival from Dubai via Bahrain by Gulf Air flight no. GF 064.

AIU found crude gold of cylindrical shape broken into 3 pieces weighing 1999 grams and valued at Rs. 54,14,731/-.

Further, 1800 pouches of RMD Gutkha valued at Rs. 45,000/- were also recovered from his checked-in-baggage. Thus, 1999 gms of crude gold and 1800 pouches of RMD Gutkha collectively valued at Rs. 54,59,731/-.

The passenger has also admitted that said goods belonged to some other person and was supposed to hand over to one Mr Imran in Mumbai and he carried it into India for a monetary consideration. The passenger has been arrested.
 The next day AIU officers intercepted a passenger Mr Rashid Manikoth holding Indian passport on his arrival from Sharjah by Air Arabia Airways flight no. G9 401. AIU officials recoverd 2 pieces of crude gold totally weighing 1009 gms and valued at Rs. 27,33,098/-.

The passenger had ingeniously concealed the 2 pieces of crude gold in the armature core of the motor of the electric mixture grinder. The passenger in his statement has further admitted that the above said gold belonged to one Mr Karim in Sharjah and he was supposed to handover to another person in Kasargod (Kerala). The passenger has been arrested.


On 23rd January AIU intercepted another passenger Mr Abdulsaleem Mohammed Pallickal holding Indian passport on his arrival from Dubai by Air India flight no. AI 984. During the course of his personal search AIU recovered 13 gold bars of 10 tolas each and 2 cut pieces of gold bars totally weighing 1624 gms and valued at Rs. 43,98,961/-. The passenger has been arrested. Further investigations are in progress.
