The Juvenile Justice Board has approved the trial of the four juvenile accused arrested in the honour killing case at Govandi as adults and these accused will now be tried in the Sessions Court. The Juvenile Justice Board said the accused, aged between 16 and 18, helped destroy evidence after the crime. They were fully aware of the crime they were committing. In October 2023, Karan Chaurasia (22) and his wife Gulnaz Khan (20) were murdered in Govandi. Gulnaz Khan went against the family and married Karan Chaurasia because of which her father had orchestrated the murders.

After this incident, the police had detained five minor accused out of the nine accused. A husband and wife were killed out of anger for having an interfaith marriage. As the four accused in this crime are above 16 years of age, they will now be tried as adults. As the fifth accused is less than 16 years of age, he has been treated as a minor.

Public Prosecutor Rupal Gothwal said that if the accused in a heinous crime is 16 or above, the Juvenile Justice Board tests the mental and physical capacity of the accused to determine how capable he is of committing the said crime. What will be the consequences of doing the said crime? Did the accused have an idea of this? This is also investigated. After examining all these aspects in the case of Govandi, the Juvenile Justice Board has allowed the said accused to be tried as adults.

According to the police, Gulnaz and Karan were murdered on October 2023. Govandi police investigated the case and arrested Gulnaz's father Gora Khan and brother Salman Khan. Gulnaz's family did not accept this marriage. He had often threatened the couple and asked them to separate. The couple decided to stay together regardless of these threats. Gulnaz's family then pretended to accept their decision.

After marriage came to Govandi from Uttar Pradesh

Both Gulnaz and Karan were originally from Uttar Pradesh. Karan had no parents. His two brothers work in Delhi. In the lane where Gulnaz lived, Karan had a tea stall. After both fell in love, they decided to get married. In December 2022, they got married in a temple in Madhya Pradesh. After staying in Delhi for a few days after marriage, both of them had returned to their native village in Uttar Pradesh.

But after going there, the pressure from Gulnaz's family started increasing. But neither of them gave much importance to him. A few days later Gulnaz's brother Salman got a job in a textile factory in Dharavi. So Gulnaz's family came to Mumbai. After coming here, they plan to eliminate Gulnaz and Karan. After talking sweetly to Gulnaz and saying that she has been forgiven, she was told that they will her in Mumbai.
