In another case of attempt of suicide at Mantralaya, government employee Dilip Sonawne tried ending his life by consuming poison.

According to the reports, Sonawne was working as a peon with the Ministry of Industry, Labour and Energy Department at Mantralaya. Deputy Secretary of Labour Department, Chandrakant Pulkundwar had ordered a departmental inquiry agaibst Sonawne who was accused of selling fans, stationary (government property) and frequently skipping work.

After probing the case, the department decided to ask Sonawne to take VRS instead of ousting him as his family was dependant on him. The department believed that VRS and its benefits will help his family in financial terms. But this did not go well with Sonawne.

On Thursday, Sonawne took the VRS but was unhappy. On Friday, he came to Mantaralaya with his wife and son and stood outside Rajesh Kumar, Principal Secretary of Labour Department's office, and claimed that the department was unjust with him. He said that he was going to get promoted, hence he was forced to take VRS. Saying this, he consumed poison but other staff members saved him and handed him over to the police.

A month ago, in a similar incident, a woman tried to commit suicide by setting herself on fire outside Mantralaya’s front gate. She tried to commit suicide because a man in her neighbourhood was troubling her. However, the police detained her before she could kill herself.
