On Monday, July 5, officials seized a huge consignment of drugs that has been reportedly smuggled into Mumbai from Iran by the sea.

According to reports, this happens to be one of the biggest seizures in recent times as the heroin weighed 283 kg and is said to cost approximately INR 2,000 crores in the international market. Meanwhile, the consignment was to be transported to Punjab by road from Mumbai's Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Navi Mumbai. As per officials, the confiscated heroin was concealed in two containers with talcum stones.

Moreover, the supplier, Prabhjit Singh, from Punjab's Taran Tarn area has been arrested in connection with the case along with two others from Madhya Pradesh.

On the other hand, in recent developments, the Anti-Narcotics Squad (NCB) has seized drugs worth INR 5.5 crores in Mumbai. This happens to be the third NCB action against drugs in Mumbai in a single month.

The NCB has released the details of the action taken in Mumbai on Wednesday, June 30. In this operation, more than one kilo of MD drugs has been seized. Its market value is Rs 25 million. Besides, heroin and brown sugar worth crores were also seized.

According to sources, Sanjeeb Nirmaya Sarkar (39) and Salim Akbar Khan (41) have been arrested in the case. He has been booked under various sections for possession of narcotics. The anti-narcotics squad had seized the goods from the accused from Goregaon on June 30 and arrested them.
