Additional Director General of Police (DGP) and former Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) chief, Himanshu Roy committed suicide on Friday by shooting himself. A suicide note was also found after his death.
Roy lived with his family in South Mumbai, and the incident occurred at 1:40 in the afternoon on Friday. As per reports, he shot himself in the mouth in his room. After the family members heard the gunshot, they rushed him to the Bombay Hospital.
He was declared dead, his body was shifted to GT Hospital for postmortem and a case was registered with the Cuff Parade police station under section 174 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). During the investigation, the police found a suicide note in Roy’s room which stated poor health as the reason for his suicide. Further, it also read that no one else is responsible for his death. Roy was suffering from blood cancer and was at the last stage.
Roy was known for his major contribution in some of the major cases in Maharashtra and he held some important posts in his career. He also investigated the death of the Mid-day journalist J Dey.
In conversation with Mumbai Live's reporter Bhagyeshree Bhuvad with the Executive Director of Humanity Care Center and Cancerologist, Dr. Raj Nagarkar informed that "Roy was responsing well to the treatment. During tests, his tumor was completely under control. However, it is difficult to say as to why he took such extreme step."
