On Tuesday, the CBI raided the former Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram's residence in Chennai. The raid was also carried out on the premises of Peter Mukherjee and Indrani. The raids were performed in connection with giving clearance on foreign investment to the INX Media Group. In the 2008 scandal involving Peter and Indrani Mukerjea's media company INX Media Group, the FIR was registered against Karti and Indrani Mukerjea.
The accused Indrani and Peter Mukerjea were the directors of the INX Media. Apart from this, the CBI has registered a case against Chart Management Services, another company of Karti Chidambaram. On Monday, the CBI filed a case in the matter of giving clearance to the INX Media of the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB). Chidambaram was the finance minister in 2007, he was accused of faking Peter-Indrani. The CBI says that Financial Ministry officials ignored the request of taxmen to investigate how the company raised so much investment without approval.
