The Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-B) has appointed an internal committee that will investigate the suicide case. On Sunday, a first-year engineering (B.Tech) student Darshan Solanki committed suicide by jumping from the seventh floor of the hostel. Darshan hailed from Ahmedabad and in three months after joining IIT, he ended his life.
The students have alleged that the atmosphere in the institution is in a way responsible for the suicide of students in IIT, Mumbai. Meanwhile, the IIT administration has explained that all efforts will be made to prevent such incidents from happening.

In 2014, Aniket Ambhore, a Scheduled Caste student committed suicide in IIT and post this incident, in 2017 SC-ACT cell was started due to student pressure. However, the work of this cell started in 2022, students said.
The organisation said, “To reduce the stress on the students, the institute continuously strives for a better environment. Mentors are appointed to support the students. However, we regret that this incident could not be prevented. Unfortunately what happened cannot be changed. However, all efforts are being made to prevent such a thing from happening in the future.”
