An unusual incident occurred at a Kali Mata temple in Mumbai’s Chembur area, where devotees were shocked to find the idol of Goddess Kali dressed to resemble Mother Mary. The temple priest was detained after reportedly admitting that he had dressed the idol in this manner because the goddess appeared in his dreams and instructed him to do so, according to a PTI report.
A video that surfaced on social media showed the idol wearing golden robes, a large crown with white decorations, and holding a child figure believed to represent baby Jesus. Disturbed by the unexpected change, devotees alerted the local police.
The priest, identified as Ramesh, told officers that he had simply followed what he believed was a divine instruction received in a dream. However, the police registered a case against him under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.
He was arrested and presented before a local court, which remanded him to two days of police custody. Authorities are now investigating whether the act was part of a larger plan or if others were involved.
