With Kathua-Unnao Rape case in the limelight, the whole country is agitating and protesting against the unsafe environment created in the country for women, especially minors.

Mumbai Police has revealed shocking statistics on the condition of women and children's safety in the city and it says that every day five young girls go missing and over 123 cases have been registered under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act. Moreover, more than 500 cases of sexual misconduct have been registered with the police.

In Mumbai, there has been a notable increase in the missing reports of children. If the kidnapped child is a boy, he is forced to beg on the streets and if it is a girl, then she is forced into human trafficking and is sexually exploited. The police have investigated harshly on cases like these and despite that, there is a hike in such incidents. According to the statistics, 365 young girls have been kidnapped from January 2018 to March 2018. Meanwhile, police have saved 238 girls until now. However, the statistics are really shocking and shatter the so-called “safe for girls” image of Mumbai. Every day two women are raped, five women are sexually harassed, and two women are kidnapped in Mumbai. The police are trying to regulate these cases but have been unsuccessful until now.

Out of 123 registered cases under POCSO, the police has successfully investigated 114 cases. From three months, the police have arrested 515 people in connection with the incident of 682 sexual misconduct incidents. Only in the month of March, the police has registered 236 cases of sexual harassment and misconduct.
