Arguments on the bail application of bus driver Sanjay More, prime accused in the BEST accident in Kurla West last month, concluded on Saturday. Subsequently, the court clarified that it will decide on More's bail application on January 10.
Claiming that he is innocent and that the accident happened due to a technical fault in the bus, More has approached the Sessions Court seeking bail. More's bail application was argued before Sessions Court Additional Judge Sachin Pawar on Saturday. At that time, after hearing arguments from both sides, the court reserved its decision on More's application till January 10.
Earlier, citing the forensic report and the RTO report, More was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. Also, there was no technical fault in the bus. Hence, the police opposed More's bail application, claiming that the accident was due to his fault. More is not a good driver, therefore, he should not be granted bail. Also, the police claimed that there is a possibility of him running away if he is released on bail while demanding rejection of More's bail application.
On the other hand, we have experience of operating buses since 1989 and this unfortunate accident happened due to mechanical failure of the electric bus. We cannot be held responsible for that. In fact, it was claimed during arguments on behalf of More that he was being sacrificed to save the prime accused responsible for the accident. No bus contractor has been arrested or charged in this case. We were trained to sit in the office and asked to drive an electric bus at Dindoshi Bus Depot. After that, we were allowed to drive buses to Kurla. Also, More demanded to grant bail by reiterating that he alone cannot be held responsible for this accident.
