The sessions court on Friday awarded the death sentence to Parvez Tak, Laila's stepfather, in the 2011 murder case of actress Laila Khan along with her mother and four siblings. After convicting Parvez of the charges against him, the court reserved the sentence till Friday.
Pervez was convicted by the court of conspiracy to commit murder, murder and destruction of evidence. While giving the final verdict in this case, the court sentenced Tak to death.
Parvez was Laila's mother's third husband. The murder came to light in February 2011. Laila, her mother and her four siblings were murdered at Laila's bungalow in Igatpuri. Police allege that Parvez first killed Laila's mother, then Laila and her four siblings, after a dispute over property.
The murder of Laila and her family came to light months later when Parvez was arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Also, their decomposed bodies were removed from the bungalow. Police examined 40 witnesses against Parvez in this case.
