The Maharashtra Home Department has suggested that the former Mumbai Police Commissioner, Param Bir Singh be declared an absconder, highlighted reports. The home department is believed to have appraised the Intelligence Bureau that the officer isn’t traceable and has thus asked for their assistance to trace him.

Based on reports, officials from the home department, stated that the legal procedure to proclaim Singh an absconder has commenced. The department is looking for legal opinion to ensure that the proposal doesn’t have any loopholes, by adhering to the legal procedures. They had already recommended that the officer be suspended since he became untraceable in May this year. In addition to this, the department has also commenced departmental inquiry against Singh for the lapses in the Anitilia case.

Since May, Singh has been untraceable post his leave owing to health issues. Singh is believed to have been sent a number of letters and emails about his health which were all unanswered, cite reports.

In July, the Thane police proclaimed a lookout notice against Singh for which he has repeatedly not appeared before the Chandiwal commission made by the Maharashtra government to investigate the allegations of corruption made by him on Anil Deshmukh, former home minister.
