A man from Malad East in Mumbai, who accorded to reports, police believe is an alcoholic would physically abuse his family that included his wife and children, propelling them to run to their village, is now charged with staging the death of his children to entice his estranged wife.

Based on reports, a senior police inspector has elaborated that the man resides in the Kurar village of Malad East. Police officials have said that on the morning of August 7, the man admitted to covering his son’s body with a white cloth with garlands on top to make it seem like he was dead.

He also professed to have compelled his daughter to stand with a rope around her neck on a bucket with an end tied to the fan on the ceiling. When she refused, to jump off the bucket and pleaded to her father, he intimidated that he would kill her.

Upon hearing the commotion, the neighbours came to the rescue of the children and alerted the police. The police then arrested the father and took the children into protective custody. 

According to reports, the police believe the man to be an alcoholic and have charged him with an attempt to murder. He confessed to the police that he hoped to click pictures of the “death of his children”, to send to his wife. He wanted her to be frightened by this and return home.

Authorities have gone on to state that the wife ran to her village with her children two years ago. Whilst he got his children back last month, his spouse did not return.
