Milind Madhukar Kathe takes over as Mumbai's new CIU chief

The announcement was made on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, a day after Hemant Nagrale took over as Mumbai's new Police Commissioner succeeding Param Bir Singh.

Recently, Mumbai Police Crime Branch Chief, Sachin Waze, was suspended in connection with the death of Hiren Mansukh, in a case related to the explosive-laden car found outside Antilla, the plush residence of industrialist Mukesh Ambani.

As per reports, Sachin Waze was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) post which Milind Kathe has now been selected as the head of the Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) of the Mumbai Police Crime Branch.

A month back, on February 25, 2021, a car packed with explosives was found near Mukesh Ambani's house. Its owner Mansukh Hiren was later found dead in Thane. Sachin Waze was arrested in the case however he claims that he is being posed as a scapegoat in the case. Waze was subsequently suspended after the allegations.

However, talks about Waze's replacement began and after thorough consideration, Milind Kathe has been appointed in his position. The announcement was made on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, a day after Hemant Nagrale took over as Mumbai's new Police Commissioner succeeding Param Bir Singh.

Milind Madhukar Kathe was earlier the Inspector at the Crime Branch.

Meanwhile, Hemant Nagarale, after assuming the post of Mumbai Police Commissioner, had transferred 86 officers in the Mumbai Police Force. The transfers include 65 officers from the crime branch. Sub-Inspector of Police, Assistant Inspector of Police and Senior Inspector of Police were transferred. API Riazuddin Qazi and Prakash Howal of Sachin Waze's CIU unit were also transferred.
