Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Sandeep Deshpande along with three others were released on bail on a personal bond of ₹15,000. This happened after the Kalyan railway court sent them to magistrate custody for 14 days. However, Deshpande’s lawyer applied for bail and the four of them were granted the same.

The four MNS leaders were arrested for travelling in Mumbai local train and defying the lockdown rules. The arrest was made by the crime branch of the Mumbai railway police from Karjat on Tuesday.

They travelled on the local train violating the rules to register their protest against the Maharashtra government. Currently, only essential workers are allowed to travel via local train while the general public is not due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has been demanding the unlocking process to move faster and has pressurised the Uddhav Thackeray government on several issues including the reopening of local trains in Mumbai for general passengers.

Ahead of the agitation, the police issued notices to MNS saying that action will be taken if more than five people are seen in public places. However, Deshpande had said that the agitation - “savinay kaydebhag” (civil disobedience) - will be carried out even If the notices have been issued.

As this happened, the railway police on Monday evening registered cases against the MNS leaders for travelling in local train from Shelu and Neral without permission.
