Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has been demanding the unlocking process to move faster. The regional party has been pressuring the Uddhav Thackeray government on several issues including the reopening of local trains in Mumbai for general passengers.

A group of MNS leaders led by Sandeep Deshpande on Monday travelled on the local train violating the rules to register their protest against the Maharashtra government. Currently, only essential workers are allowed to travel via local train while the general public is not due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Amid the call for agitation - MNS’ civil disobedience, heavy security was deployed at Dadar station and other stations including Vashi. The MNS leaders boarded the train today and travelled for a few stations urging the state government to allow general passengers to travel via local trains.

“We have appealed the Maharashtra government several times to allow general passengers to travel in local trains. The government has allowed buses to operate in full capacity but it thinks that the coronavirus only spreads through trains. People are spending eight hours to commute for work,” Deshpande said in a video.

Ahead of the agitation, the police issued notices to MNS saying that action will be taken if more than five people are seen in public places. However, Deshpande had said that the agitation will be carried out even If the notices have been issued.

“If Shiv Sena is allowed to protest, why not MNS? Our agitation is for the common man. Citizens have suffered a lot due to the closure of local trains,” he had said.
