It has come to light that cyber crooks made a transaction worth INR 5 lakh through the credit card of a person who was dying in the intensive care unit. A case has been registered in this matter and the police are investigating further.

The husband of the complainant woman is undergoing treatment at Godrej Hospital in Vikhroli due to chronic illness. As his condition deteriorated recently, he had to be admitted to the intensive care unit, police said. According to the complaint, while the husband was in the intensive care unit, the complainant woman received a call on her husband's mobile phone. The caller claimed to be a bank representative.

INR 50 thousand rupees will be charged from the husband on his credit card from the next day. An online application has to be made to waive the fee, said the caller. The woman panicked as she was already worried about her husband's health. To avoid any additional undue charges on her husband's credit card, she filled out all the information on the website application sent by the con man.

Moments later, a total of INR 4.88 lakh was transferred from her husband's credit card account. She received three transaction messages. When the shocked woman called the bank's helpline, the bank officials said that no such transaction had taken place.

However, after two days, when the woman called the bank again and checked, the woman was told by the bank that three transactions had been made on her husband's credit card. After realising the fraud, the woman approached the Vikhroli police station and lodged a complaint. Accordingly, the police have registered a case under the Prevention of Fraud and Information Technology Act.
