In an incident reported on Saturday, November 28, a five-year-old boy died after getting stuck in an elevator of a building in Mumbai's Dharavi area. The incident was captured in the CCTV footage, and the video has been going viral ever since.
Reports state that the incident took place at the Cozy Shelter building on Cross Road in Dharavi, where Hozefa Sheikh got into the elevator with his two sisters from the ground floor at around 12.45 pm. They intended to go up to the fourth floor, however, he got stuck between the inner and outer doors while getting out. While two sisters - one elder and younger were able to step out of the life, Hozefa was stuck between the lift’s sliding grill and a wooden door. The CCTV footage also showed that the button on the sixth floor was red, and someone could have called for the elevator.
Their mother realised this a few hours later when she noticed bloodstains near the elevator. Locals found Hozefa's body in the lift shaft and informed the father. He was rushed to Sion Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival. Medical reports suggested head injuries. The father of the deceased works as a tailor and the mother is a housewife.
It is learned that Dharavi police has registered an accidental death report in this matter, and are conducting an investigation to under the mechanical error of the lift. Furthermore, an FIR will be filed if there is any foul play involved in the matter. Police have appealed to citizens not to allow their children to leave the elevator alone and keep an eye on them often.
