Mumbai: Drunkard caused a major bus accident; Woman dies, eight injured

Nine people were hit by a bus in Lalbaug on Sunday night. Five of them have been treated and discharged from the hospital, while three are still undergoing treatment. However, a young woman who was seriously injured in this accident passed away during the treatment. It is believed that the accident happened due to a drunk passenger in the bus.


A drunk passenger in the bus got into a fight with the driver. Meanwhile, the passenger tried to grab the steering wheel of the bus, pushing the driver aside. So the driver lost control of the bus. The drunk man swerved the steering wheel and the bus hit some vehicles and pedestrians. Nine people were injured in this accident who were admitted to different hospitals nearby. One of these young women has died, five of the injured have been discharged from the hospital after treatment and three are undergoing treatment. Meanwhile, the police have detained the drunken passenger.

While reporting the incident, the police said, “The drunken passenger had an argument with the bus driver and he turned the steering wheel of the bus which caused this accident. The bus hit pedestrians, roadside cars and two-wheelers”. While informing about the incident, Kalachowki police said that bus number 66 (an electric bus departing from Ballard Pier in South Mumbai) was going from Sion towards Rani Laxmibai Chowk bus stand. That's when the accident happened.
